We caught up with expert
kitchen designs from Goa, Enfold Modular that have been in the business of
kitchen design since 1996 and got them to share the thoughts on how a kitchen
can be designed. The starting point of any design process is to firstly to take
into account the space available for the cookery, paying attention to the
architectural details such as the placement of the windows, provisions for
exhaust, the plumbing layout and the position of the sink.
Keep the
architectural placements in mind, the next aspect is to determine the how best
the kitchen triangle can be placed in the given layout. The kitchen triangle is
the placement of the sink, the refrigerator and the stove in a manner that
facilitates easy access and not being have to walk a lot to reach these basic kitchen
essentials. The nest aspect is to focus on the storage possibilities in the
layout. As a rule of thumb nearly 35%-40% of the kitchen area must storage provisions
in the form of cabinetry or shelves.
Kitchens with inadequate storage
provisions would lead to space appearing to be cluttered. Similarly kitchen
appliances such as food processors, coffee makers, ovens, microwaves etc also
need to fitted within the cabinetry and not allowed to be left in plain sight
resting on countertops. lighting arrangements also play a critical role in
while designing a kitchen. Natural lighting is as important to artificial
lighting and equal importance must be given to both.
Natural lighting is
basically allowing sunlight to enter via the doors and windows in the layout.
Avoid getting rid of these openings as help in keep the room look fresh and
airy. In addition to this it also helps in getting rid of kitchen smells and odors
quickly.
